Manual and automated
On CMS platforms with plugins, internal linking can be partially automated: the system inserts links to similar articles or products based on tags and categories. Website builders like Tilda do not have such a tool, so the link map is created manually – which page links to which, using which anchor text, and where in the text.
What this means in practice
Without internal linking, even good content remains an isolated island: the user reads an article and leaves, while the search engine does not understand that several pieces of content explore the same topic from different angles. It is better to plan these connections in advance, before publication, rather than try to add links across the entire archive afterwards.
Who it is critical for
It is critical for websites with large volumes of informational content: blogs, knowledge bases, and FAQ sections. For one-page websites and sites with a dozen pages, internal linking is almost irrelevant.
